Sheldon Scott Gover July 7, 1971 - January 17, 2025

Date of Service

February 5, 2025

Sheldon Scott Gover, known to most as Scott, passed away unexpectedly on January 17, 2025, at the age of 53 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock, California, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 7, 1971, in Lancaster, California, Scott lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to others.

Scott graduated from Turlock High School in 1990, where he played football and became a master of Taekwondo. Known for his friendly and outgoing personality, he was well-liked and respected by classmates, teachers, and teammates alike. He later continued his education at FLETC, where he completed his Field Training Officer (FTO) program and graduated in 2009. He began his career with the DLA Police and later pursued his passion for mechanics, working at several establishments throughout his life. Known for his extraordinary ability to fix anything, Scott was always ready to lend a helping hand—especially to his children. His absence leaves a deep void in their lives, as Dad will no longer be there to fix things for them as he always had.

Scott’s life was enriched by his favorite hobbies, which included duck hunting, fishing, spending time on the water, and attending every event his children were a part of. He cherished weekend trips, hunting, hiking, camping, and any time spent outdoors. A Catholic, Scott was actively involved in the Hilmar community, particularly during his children’s sporting years. His laughter, infectious sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be remembered by all who knew him.

Scott never met a stranger and was known for his heartfelt way of making others feel loved and valued. He always ensured those around him felt deeply appreciated and unconditionally loved, no matter the circumstances. He made it a point to tell those around him how much he cared for them, leaving an enduring legacy of kindness and love.

Scott is survived by his mother, Donna Gover of Hilmar; his son, Matthew (Mayra) Gover of Turlock; his daughters, Kristin and Katelyn Gover of Hilmar; his brother, Shayne (Teresa) Gover of Merced; his niece, Alyssa (Zac) Spencer of Kentucky; his nephew, Branden (Veronica) Gover of Merced; as well as many beloved cousins, aunts, uncles, a great-niece, a great-nephew, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bill and Helen Gover; his maternal grandparents, Allen and Dorothy Wagner; his father, William Daniel Gover; and other cherished family members.

A rosary and funeral service to celebrate Scott’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 5, at 11:00 AM at Holy Rosary Church, located at 8471 Cypress Street, Hilmar, CA 95324, in the Mission Church. For bequests, please contact his daughter, Kristin Gover, at (209) 410-4308.
