Gerald Mathis, 78, of Denair, CA passed away December 27, 2017 at Emanuel Medical Center. Gerald was born in Imperial Valley on August 15, 1939 to W.L. and Georgie Mathis. He served for the United Sates Navy from 1957 – 1960. Gerald was was an excellent Police Officer and admired by so many people. He was a Police Officer in Hayward until 1973 and retired as Police Lieutenant from Hughson Police Department at age 50. Gerald was a very special “Papa” who loved his grandchildren more than anything in the world.
Gerald is survived by his “Sweetie” Barbara Mathis; daughter Shari DeSilva of Empire; three grandchildren, Amanda Mathis of Denair, Michael DeSilva of Turlock, and Daniel DeSilva of Turlock; two great grandchildren, Maverick Glenn Mathis and Henry Franklin Mathis; sister Linda Smith of Texas; and sister-in-law Shirley Mathis of Texas. He will be missed by nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.
Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Turlock on Thursday, January 4, 2018, 11am with burial to follow at Burwood Cemetery in Escalon.
