Rosetta Kish Horner September 6, 1928 - May 12, 2020

Rosetta Kish Horner

September 6, 1928 – May 12, 2020

Rosetta Kish Horner, age 91, of Turlock, California died peacefully on May 12, 2020.  Born Rosetta Golda Kish and known as Rose to her friends and Aunt Zet to her nieces and nephews, Rosetta began her journey in life on  September 6, 1928 in Granite City, Illinois along side her twin sister, Rosella.  They were the youngest of ten children born to Michael and Mary Kish, eight of whom lived to adulthood.

Rosetta was a hard worker her entire life.  As a young girl during WWII, she worked on the family farm to help support her family while her brothers were away in the war.  At the age of 16, Rosetta married Wilmer (Bill) Oldham.  They were married for 25 years and had three children: Sharon, Victor and Terry.  In 1957, the family moved to Sonora, California to be closer to Rosetta’s mother and brothers.

In 1958, the family settled in Turlock.  Rosetta worked for International Paper Company before becoming a full-time owner and operator of a board and care home where she lived with her family and the people she cared for.  She loved what she did and enjoyed the people that lived in her home.

In 1981, Rosetta found love again and married Tom Horner.  She was blessed to have him in her life for 22 years and together they went on many adventures traveling around the United States.

Rosetta was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She loved to hear all about their accomplishments and the lives that they were living.  She also loved Jesus, and in the last few years of her life was looking forward to the day when she could go home and be with him and the rest of her departed family.

In her golden years, she proudly went to the Salvation Army Church and enjoyed being involved with the kid’s programs in the summer and the bible studies.  She was a San Francisco Giants fan and would record and watch all of their games.  She also enjoyed spending time with the Delhi Seniors playing Bingo, it was the highlight of her week.

Rosetta was loved by many and she loved many.  She had a great sense of humor and loved to talk and laugh and to just enjoy people.  She adopted many people who needed advice or just someone to listen.  She had many who called her Mom or Grandma Rose and even though they weren’t blood related, they were still treated like family.  She always said how blessed she was by her friends.

She is survived by her daughters: Sharon Dean and Terry (Howard) Wilson; grandchildren Kristine (Fred) Amos, Regina (Dale) Lingenfelter, Larry (Vicki) Lopes; great-grandchildren Krista Lingenfelter, Lindsey and Mitchell Amos, Chase, Haley and Colby Lopes.

She also leaves behind step-children: Lester Horner, Bill (Charlotte) Horner and Thomas (Barbara) Horner and many nieces, nephews and long-time friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, all of her siblings, her son Victor, grandson Gary and her husbands.  Now that she is with her Lord and reunited with family, we are sure there is a celebration going on and no one is getting a word in edgewise.

Thank you to Bristol Hospice and to Tonya and Lawrence for all the support and care provided this past year.  They love the people that they care for and nothing was more evident than when Tonya came after Mom passed and took care of her. Thank you can never cover what that meant at that moment.

A celebration of Life will be held in the future after this virus has passed and we are able to come together again.  In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions can be made to the Salvation Army.

Once you have submitted your condolence, it will be approved by our staff during office hours, then published on your loved one’s page.

    Mom,
You loved and cared for Dad for 25 years. You loved us too. We were always your kids and you would call us that. There never went a time that you didn’t say “now I want you to know that I love you kids” at the end of a phone call or a visit and that usually was followed with a great big Rosetta Kish hug; for those of you that have had one you know what I mean. They are fabulous. You have always been MOM to us. Out of three we chose you to call Mom there will never be another in our heart. You will be missed Mom. We will miss our talks ( ie.baseball, sports you played when you was growing up,trips you and dad took, etc…). We will miss your infectious charm and outgoing personality. You would talk to anybody. It didn’t matter who they were or where we were; if there was somebody there and it sparked your fancy; you would talk to them. And one other thing, well make that two, you was stubborn and very blunt. Once you set your mind to something there was no changing it no matter how hard we tried. Also if you had some thing you wanted to say you didn’t sugar coat it or beat around the bush; you simply told it how it was. These are the qualities we loved most about you. I am sure you are happy now that you are back with dad, your twin sister, your grandson, your parents, etc… All of those that have gone before you and waited patiently for you to join them in Our Father’s heavenly home. We love you Mom and we are going to miss you. The Kids.

What a beautiful tribute ❤️Mrs. Rose, it was my pleasure to assist in your care while your room was getting ready in Heaven, at times you were impatient and didn’t understand what was taking so long, but I am thankful that we got to meet and spend time together while you were waiting to begin your next journey. You will be deeply missed. But I know your at peace and smiling down on all your loved ones, and maybe even making sure their rooms are just perfect when they are ready to use them because that’s the kind hearted person you are❤️
