Loren D. Foster May 29, 1938 - November 20, 2020

Loren D. Foster

May 1938 ~ Nov. 2020

Loren David Foster, 82, of Turlock, CA, passed away November 19, 2020.

He was born in Fresno, CA, May 29, 1938, to Ellen Stevens and David Melvin Foster. He graduated high school in Fresno, CA, and went on to serve in the armed forces as US Army Signal Corp-Field Radio. He met his beautiful wife while both were working at MARS Drive-In, in Fresno, CA, and they became engaged. They wrote letters back and forth while he was stationed in Germany, and were married on December 15, 1962. They had their first child in 1964, a son, and were blessed with three more throughout the following years, all daughters.

He continued to work hard and advanced his career in broadcast engineering with jobs at KICU-TV Visalia, KMJ-TV Channel 24 in Fresno, and as Chief Engineer at KLOC-TV, Channel 19 in Modesto, CA. He attained all of this without a college education, through his thirst for knowledge, self motivation, capabilities, and merits. He credited the Lord’s guidance and a couple of encouraging mentors for their role in his successes.

In March of 1981, he accepted employment at California State College, Stanislaus as Television Engineer. He was recognized for his great work in establishing the electronic link between Stanislaus State college and Sonora to bring upper division distance learning to Sonora’s Fairview Office Building. He also assisted California State University, Sacramento, in 1984, to meet their FCC compliance obligations. He was one of the pioneers in the field of distance learning.

He officially retired from California State University Stanislaus in 2002, but continued to work there part-time until 2010. He remained active in the community, volunteering for the Turlock Police Department and becoming a lifetime member of the Madison Society Foundation. He loved serving his church, and he worked on the security team. His hobbies included photography, “trouble-making,” shooting guns and training others to use guns safely. He enjoyed gospel music, big band and Jim Reeves.

Most importantly, Loren loved his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. His wish was that all would seek a relationship with Him, and find a saving knowledge of Christ. He dearly loved his wife, his children and their spouses, his grandchildren, and his nieces and nephews. He was a steady rock, always available when needed, a prayer and spiritual warrior, and a hero to his family. He finished the race, kept the faith, and was victorious in Christ.

Viewing will be at Allen Mortuary on Monday, November 30, 2020 at 10:00a.m. with the funeral to follow at 11:00a.m.  Interment will be at Turlock Memorial Park.

Words cannot describe how much my grandfather loved not only his family, but also the people in his community. My fondest memory of him was him teaching me the art of playing horseshoes up at Rock Creek. The hole in our hearts may be great, but the love he had for everyone he knew will fill that same hole. It might be quick for some, and others might take awhile to adjust to the loss. Thank you Grandpa for your service to your country, your community, and most importantly, to your family. Rest easy grandpa.

I was most acquainted with Loren during his pioneering tech efforts at cal state Stanislaus. It was obvious that he had passion and joy in the work. Interesting, isn’t it, that he has passed during a pandemic where that foundational technological work he did has now Zoomed across the globe.

  3. Cherie Snyder says

Loren’s deep spiritual convictions were always a standard at which I measured how I was doing. Did I have the unshakable and unwavering convictions that he had? He stood as a pillar in his community and I know he will be missed by all who knew him.

My most vivid memories of my childhood were of visiting the family and being so aware of the love and respect between family members. It was reassuring knowing that the environment in his home was rock steady and held to a biblical standard.

Loren took the pictures at my wedding. Unselfishly volunteering his time to make the day as memorable as possible. he truly will be missed.

I was also part of the men’s accountability group that met in his barn inside his motor home. Loren taught me how to go before the throne of grace and enjoy fellowship with our Lord Jesse Christ. We always wanted Loren to pray last each week so we could share in his close relationship he shared with our Lord in prayer. He shared from his heart each week and modeled to me how to be vulnerable and sincere. Loren was a living testimony to me of what a man of God should look like. He also taught me the value of owning a gun and how to remain safe while handling one.
My thoughts and prayers go out to him family in this time of loss.

  5. Bert Bergman says

I met Loren through the Police Volunteers and we became good friends. Loren and I worked many patrol shifts, special events and sat together at meetings.
Loren always nice and easy to talk with. I missed after he left the group.

    Sorry for your loss.

  6. Dave Jackman says

Loren was my best friend and mentor. We met in 1984 and began an accountability group with 3 other men, asking the questions of a Promise Keeper even before that organization was born. Our wives share the same birthday and Loren would pick a place for us to eat. It was always enjoyable.
Loren is the one person I could not out-pun. He always had a comeback, showing his vast knowledge of many subjects.
As a mentor, he challenged me to be a better dad and husband through the application of God’s Word. He epitomized praying the Scriptures with encouraging words and laughter.
He also kept my computer going, and even built a new one for me. I love him and miss him.

  7. Teri Foster says

My dad had a beautiful heart and touched so many lives with his love for the Lord, his willingness to serve/help and humble heart. He was a true servant of God. His desire was for everyone that he encountered to know the Lord personally. The hole he has left in our hearts and family will never be filled. He was a faithful servant to the very end. I am confident that the Lord has said “Well done, thy good and faithful servant.” Well done, dad. You have left a legacy and will truly be missed! !

  8. Sheryl Ridley says

How do I write something to convey how much I love and will miss my dear father? When he was in the hospital and Brenna and I finally received permission to visit him one at a time, Brenna urged me to go in first and when he saw me, he threw his arms up and exclaimed, “that’s my daughter!” to anyone who would hear. He always welcomed us into his house with the same enthusiasm. I imagine when it is my turn to cross from death unto life, Jesus and my Dad will greet me just like that. I imagine he will greet every one of his beloved family members and friends that way. What a hole his absence leaves in our lives, and it will never be the same without him. He honored the Lord until and with his last breath.

  9. Holly Evans says

I will certainly miss his friendly chats and pets when I would see him on my daily walks with my dog! He was always outside tinkering with something and happy to take a break to pet our dogs. Very sorry to the family.

Dear Loretta and family, how my heart is broken for all of you. Loren was a quiet spiritual leader that spoke many words of wisdom. I loved his smile. Yes, he has fought the good fight and finished the race. Oh that we may all learn and do the same. Love to you all. Nan

I worked with Brenna Foster at 2 preschools over the years. Every time I saw her dad Loren Foster he was very sweet. Coming by to just say hi, and giving Brenna help that was needed at the time. The very first time I saw him, he came with a big smile and delivered flowers to Brenna on her birthday. Yep big smiles and hugs for Brenna too. !
