Virgie Carver October 4, 1943 - December 7, 2020

Virgie Carver

October 1943 – December 2020

Virgie Carver was born in 1943 in Indiana and moved to California as a child. She helped raise her four younger sisters and younger brother. She married her husband, Thomas, when they were 17 and 16, and were blissfully married for 60 years. They had three children: two sons, James and Jerry, and one daughter, Tammy. They also had 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Virgie was very loved by her family, and was the adopted “Mom” and “Nana” to several others throughout her life.  Her home was always open to family and friends, and was a second home to many.

She worked in Delhi Unified School District for 27 years, and is a huge part of the memories of those who attended school there.  Those who knew her well always remember her as having a great love of Elvis Presley, a talent for sewing and cooking, someone always ready with a hug and a smile, and a great love for her family.

Virgie is survived by her husband Thomas Carver, children James Carver of Ocean Springs, MS, Jerry Carver of Delhi, CA, and Tammy Horn of Seminole, OK.  Also survived by her sisters Ira Howe, Gail Johnson, and Linda Carver.  She is preceded in death by her sisters Ruth Cash and Marcella Hooten.

She touched numerous lives and hearts throughout her life, and will be greatly missed.

  4. Maggie Senay says

I grew up across the street from Virgie on Jennifer Ct. and saw her daily during elementary school. I will always remember swimming in her pool on hot days and her smile. She was one of the most loving, kind and companionate people I knew. I remember she would always buy lemonade from us when no one else did on our small street. You will be greatly missed Virgie. Praying for your family at this time.

  5. Corynne Andrade says

I have fond memories of Virgie as a child growing up in Delhi. And as a teacher in Delhi, I had the joy of seeing her again, while teaching her grandchildren. She went to every awards assembly and Christmas Program. I enjoyed catching up with her and seeing the joy she felt for her family. Delhi will feel a little bit more empty without her big smile to fill it up.
    My deepest condolences,
    Corynne Andrade
