March 1924 – January 2021
Mary Gertrude Winton, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed peacefully of natural causes on January 3, 2021 at Covenant Village in Turlock, CA. Mary is survived by her son Dan (Kathy), her daughter Mary Kay (Mike), four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Mary was born in Inglewood, CA in 1924 to Elizabeth and Clarence Farmer and later moved to Turlock together with her two brothers where her father opened a successful optometry practice. She attended Turlock High School and the University of California, Berkeley where she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority. While in high school she met the love of her life, Keith Winton, who after graduating from Livingston High also attended Cal. Following their marriage in 1945, Mary returned to finish her studies at Cal and Keith was dispatched to the Pacific as a commissioned naval officer. After the war they returned to Livingston where Keith joined his father at the Winton Insurance Agency and Mary raised their two children until joining Keith at the agency where Mary worked for more than 50 years.
Mary enjoyed the annual 4th of July festivities in their backyard, visiting her grandchildren in Newport Beach and Berkeley, trips to Yosemite, playing bridge with friends, and reading to young children at the elementary school. Mary’s Christian faith was important to her and she was active in the Livingston Methodist Church for many years.
Mary will be remembered for her kindness, her engaging smile, her gentle spirit, her devotion to her family and her dedication to community service.

Our Mom and Dad loved the community and participating. In all activities. We have been sharing lots of pictures and stories.

February 10, 2021 at 3:58 amWishing you my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your mom, Dan and Mary Kay. I only met her a few times, but she always had the sweetest smile and her graciousness made her a joy to be around. We’re losing a wonderful generation as our parents gradually leave us. The life experiences they shared, and the fond memories we have of them, are beyond measure.
Take care, and know that the entire LHS community is thinking of you and your families.
