Marlene Carlquist Jessup September 18, 1932 - March 29, 2021

September 1932 – March 2021

Marlene Jessup, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother went home to be with the Lord on March 29 after an extended battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She left this earth surrounded by her loving husband of 70 years, Jim, and her sons Paul and Mark.

Marlene was born September 18, 1932 in Dunsmuir, California, the first and only child of Clifford and Maria Carlquist. Moving to Turlock at an early age, Marlene attended Turlock schools and graduated from Turlock High School in 1950.

Marlene married Jim Jessup on October 21, 1950 and lived for the majority of her life in and around the Turlock area. Marlene and Jim spent their lives working on their almond ranch, raising their two boys, and serving their church family.

Marlene was an active member of the Evangelical Free Church and she and Jim were leaders of youth groups for many years. She was the church pianist and loved singing and playing her favorite hymns. She was an avid cook and loved to host lunches and dinners and bake her favorite treats for family and friends.

Marlene is survived by her husband, Jim; her two sons, Paul of Highland, California and Mark of Bakersfield, California; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Marlene’s name to the Mount Hermon Christian Conference Center (mounthermon.org).

A Memorial Service for Marlene will be held on Sat., May 1, 2021 at 10:30am at Crossroads Church, 1360 N. Johnson, Turlock.

Jim, Paul & Mark. I was saddened to hear of the passing of Marlene. What a wonderful lady she was .. and always smiling! I will never forget the summer vacation Bible schools we had at Marlene & Jim’s house in the country. Such a wonderful time to celebrate Jesus with family and friends in a beautiful backyard setting. I know Marlene will be missed. I also know she is now whole in the arms of her Savior and we will see her again.

Marlene was such a dear friend. She began writing to me when I grew into an adult and we continued to write each other long into her years at Covenant Village. She was always so pleased to write about her family and especially Lyndsay because she knew that my daughter and Lyndsay had been childhood friends. I will miss having Marlene to write to this year but I know that she is joyous in Heaven with Jesus! I My condolences to Jim, Paul, Mark and families. I know how much you’ll miss your dear Marlene.
