August 28, 1928 ~ June 27, 2021
Arturo was born in General Teran, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on August 28, 1928. He was one of eight children, six boys and two girls. He was the last of this large family. In 1954 Arturo immigrated to the United States with his wife, Aida Lea Gonzalez Rodriguez, and their two young daughters, Esthela and Mary. They lived in Lodi for 18 years, where their two sons were born, Mario and James. In 1974 the family moved to Turlock where Arturo has lived for 48 years. He worked and retired in 1993 from the Hershey Chocolate Company in Oakdale, California.
Arturo was a very proud man and worked tirelessly to support his family and pursue “The American Dream”. One of his proudest moments was becoming a US Citizen in 1987. He always displayed the American flag proudly.
He was predeceased in death by his wife, Aida Lea Gonzalez Rodriguez, and one granddaughter, Heidi D. McGarvey and survived by daughters, Esthela R. Guillen of Santa Rosa (Jose), Mary Frazer of Folsom (Stan), sons, Mario A. Rodriguez of Carmichael, and James A. Rodriguez of Granite Bay.
Arturo leaves behind 11 grandchildren: Wendi Dozler, Kandice Jessup, Jennifer Arntz, Kenneth Arntz, Eric Frazer, Lindsay VanLaningham, Michael Frazer, Danielle Rodriguez, Nikki Rodriguez, Kristina Rodriguez, and Mackenzie Rodriguez. He was also very proud of his 17 great grandchildren: Andrew, Christian, Micah, Hannah, Rachel Dozler; Maya, Max, Leia Vanlaningham; Maverick, Beau, Luke, Ella, Olivia Frazer; Henry, Charlotte Frazer; and Emelia and Ezra Hall.
Arturo loved cowboy hats, fancy boots and had a large collection of sunglasses and watches. He also loved his cars and ranchera music, especially the Alegres De Teran. As one of our nephews said “grandpa was a legend” and he will be missed by all of his family and friends.
Rest in peace dad!

July 7, 2021 at 4:57 pmSo perfectly written Mario. Thank you for putting this into words. This Illustrates the grandfather I knew so well. I Love him and will miss him and all the ways he communicated with me over my lifetime. The joys of laughter and memories remain. I’m So blessed by all he and grandma did to give us the privileged lives we have been able to embark on in this great nation! He pursued and lived out the true American dream. I’m grateful and miss him. Your poem makes me smile and cry each time I read it! What a great hard working man he was! I speak of him and his personality often to my five. Dad speaks of him often and tells me stories of him and his life that i had never heard. He respected grandpa and loved him. I Love you Grandpa!! .
