Frank “Chico” Costa January 26, 1941 - November 30, 2021

January 26, 1941- November 30, 2021

Frank Costa passed away at his home in Hilmar on November 30, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Terceira, Azores, he was the oldest child of Joao Sousa da Costa and Maria Freitas da Costa. He was married to Maria Gomes da Costa for 54 years. They had two children, Marina (Christy) Costa, and David (Veronica) Costa. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter-in-law Christy (Marina) Costa. Sadly, Frank’s sister Terry (Jay) Diamond passed away on December 11, 2021.

Frank immigrated to America in 1972, after 16 years of service in the Portuguese Air Force in Guinea. He embraced America as a patriotic citizen while keeping his cultural roots firmly in place. He retired from Foster Farms after 25 years. Chico was known for his humor, his homemade wine, his delicious barbeques, a large circle of friends, and his loyalty to Sporting, a Portuguese soccer team. Frank took great pleasure and pride in his grandchildren. Family gatherings brought him immense joy.  He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by siblings Emanuel (Adelaide), John (Shawn), Miguel (Maggie) Costa, and sister Fatima Marcelino; grandchildren Olivia, Cruz, Viviana, Ariana, Cylus, Lily, and Gilbert, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Mass will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 8471 Cypress Street, Hilmar, CA 95324 on January 5, 2:00 P.M. Donations be made in Frank’s honor to the Joao and Maria Costa Memorial Scholarship Award, which is given annually to an outstanding high school student whose parents immigrated from the Azores. Address: Shawn Costa, P.O. Box 105, Hilmar, CA 95324. The Costa family is grateful for the outpouring of prayers and fond memories of Frank, who is forever in our hearts.
