Betty Ann Leonard, age 100, passed away on June 29, 2022 in Turlock, California. She was born on January 16, 1922 to Arthur and Stella Hulse in Dayton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Leonard, her parents, three brothers, and three sisters.

She married Robert Leonard on February 17, 1940 in Richmond, Indiana. In June of 1940, when attending a church service to which they had been invited, they went together to the front of the church. They knelt at an altar and committed their lives to God to always love and serve Him. They both kept that commitment faithfully all their lives. Both were always active in church work. Their four children grew up in the church environment. They have been very active in church music and other aspects of church ministry to this present time.

She was a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana where she majored in Elementary School Education. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in that field. She did graduate work at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. She taught for many years at Calvary Christian School in Indianapolis, Indiana. This was an educational extension of Calvary Tabernacle in Indianapolis, Indiana where Reverend N. A. Urshan was the pastor. For several years she was a contributor in writing Sunday School Quarterly materials for elementary grade classes. This was for the International United Pentecostal Church Organization in St. Louis, Missouri.

After a number of years in the elementary classrooms, she advanced into school administration. She filled the places of elementary school principal in the states of Washington and Florida. She retired in 1980. For several years in her retirement, she attended Sherwood Oaks Christian Church in Bloomington, Indiana with Rev. Tom Ellsworth was pastor. She moved to Turlock, CA in October 2011, after her husband’s death, to join her son, David Leonard and his family.

She is survived by 4 children. Black Barbara Thomas Boger of Bicknel, Indiana, Rebecca Leonard LaMar of Bloomington, Indiana, David Leonard of Turlock, California, and Sharon Patterson of Miami, Florida.

She is survived by 2 foster children, Linda Westbrook Neher of Greenwood, Indiana, and Winona Westbrook of Cary, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by one foster child, Darrell Westbrook of Wildwood, Missouri.

She is survived by 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
