Stanley Elems April 30, 1931 - August 14, 2022

Stanley Walter Elems passed away in Modesto at 91 years old on August 14, 2022. He was born in Livingston, California to his parents Homer and Lazetta Elems. He later enlisted in the Army serving in Okinawa, Japan, and then the Air Reserves at Castle Airforce Base. He received his teaching credential and master’s degree from Mankato State College. In 1962, he moved to Modesto and began teaching at Modesto Junior College, where he taught Biology, Mammalogy, and Marine Biology, working as the department chairman of the science department. He was an avid fisherman and photographer. He loved to work with his hands at woodworking, carpentry, and leather craft. Stanley was the founder of the Great Valley Museum in connection with Yosemite Jr. College; Stanley was committed to his faith in Christ Jesus, and the Catholic Church. Stanley is preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Elems, his daughters Kathy Elems and Karen Elems, his parents, Homer and Lazetta Elems, and his sister, Laura George. Stanley is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Glada Elems of Reno NV, his grandsons, David Stanley Elems and Matthew Steven Elems, his brother Paul Elems, nephew Clayton Elems, and Stanley Westfall; his brother-in-law. He loved his family, and his family loved him. A visitation will be held at Allen Mortuary on Thursday, September 1, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00. A Mass will be held at All Saints University Parish in Turlock Friday, September 2, at 10:00 am, internment following in Turlock Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Allen Mortuary from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

Mass will be held at All Saints University Parish on September 2, 2022 at 10:00 with a committal service at Turlock Memorial Park.
