Some mothers teach their daughters how to dance, or put on make-up or how to plan a dinner party. But our mother taught us much more valuable things, like how to love others, how to be a friend to the friendless, how to forgive quickly and to turn the other cheek. She taught us to never take anything for granted and to always share your smile with someone because you never know if that is the only one they will see that day. 

She always saw the best in others, never focusing on anyone’s shortcomings. Anytime someone would stop by for a visit, she did her very best to get them to watch a movie or concert with her. She loved listening to Neil Diamond, Celine Dion, and Kenny Rogers to name a few. There wasn’t a TV show out there that she didn’t enjoy. She loved classic movies. The Quiet Man, The Jazz Singer, and Laurel & Hardy were some of her favorites. 

Growing up, we didn’t have much, but what we did have, she always managed to share it with someone else less fortunate than us. She worked long hours holding down three jobs at one time to make ends meet. She delivered newspapers for her brother’s dealership and worked at Modesto Adventist Elementary School as a teachers aide, yard duty, and after-school care giver. 

She made many friends along life’s highway and touched many lives with her smile and kind words for everyone. She loved her brother, Vernon dearly and spoke of him often telling stories of when they were growing up in Santa Monica. She loved sewing and visiting with her friend Lynda. She could spend hours on the phone chatting with her and her many grandchildren; she will be missed by many and remembered with love by all.
