Phyllis Stanley-Garry January 9, 1955 - November 21, 2023

Date of Service

December 2, 2023

Phyllis Stanley-Garry was the 6th child born to SC & Frankie Stanley. She was born in Los Banos, CA on Jan 9th, 1955. She was raised in Dos Palos where she attended Elementary, Middle & High School. She graduated from Dos Palos High in 1973. Phyllis went on to Coalinga Jr College & continued her education at Fresno State University, where she graduated with a Bachelors in Criminology with law enforcement options in 1978.

Phyllis then moved to San Jose where she worked for Digital Equipment Corporation & met Thomas Garry. They got married in 1986 & one child was born to that union – Thomas Stanley Garry.

Phyllis loved God, her church & her church family. She was a soprano in the Emmanuel Baptist Church Adult Choir & faithfully attended bible study or BSF for as long as her health permitted.

Phyllis was a woman of etiquette, morals & manners who lived her life the best way she knew how.

Phyllis loved being around her family. She leaves to mourn her: son Thomas Stanley Garry of San Diego, CA; husband Thomas Joseph Garry of San Jose, CA; mother Frankie Stanley of Fresno, CA; sisters Lois Stanley Parr, LaVerne Stanley & Paula Stanley of Fresno, CA & Rosemary Stanley of Corcoran, CA; brothers SC Stanley Jr, Fredrick Stanley, Theodore Stanley, Craig Stanley & Stephen Stanley of Fresno, CA & Warren Stanley of Chula Vista, CA along with a host of nephews & nieces. She was preceded in death by her father SC Stanley & brother James Vincent Stanley. Phyllis will be missed by dozens of other relatives & all her close friends.

A few of Phyllis’ favorite things included: Diet Pepsi, (authentic) Chinese food, popcorn, trips to Half Moon Bay, Tahoe & Asilomar, taking in movies at the theater, caramel apples from Santa Cruz & spoiling her son, nieces & nephews. She also loved going to sports games; less so for the teams playing & more so to test the new food vendors each year. She had an affinity for music, especially oldies & Motown, speaking highly of the days she would go dancing with her friends in college.

A very special thanks to Earlene & James Davis, Kym Hayes, Kathy Blair, Patty Arenas-Collins, Vickie Turner, Clyther Phoenix & Freddie Anderson.
