Melvin W. Bledsoe July 6, 1936 - January 25, 2024

Date of Service

January 31, 2024

Melvin Bledsoe was born July 6th, 1936 in Oklahoma City, OK.  He was 1 of 5 siblings, Donna, Mary, Bobbie and Richard.

Melvin entered the United States Marine Corp. in 1954, served 4 years and was a veteran of the Korean War. After his service Melvin resided in the Bakersfield area working in the oil industry.  Eventually he made the Modesto area his home, where he lived for over 60 years. Melvin was employed by the Louis Rich Company for over 20 years, but we all know he had many side jobs from wheeling and dealing cars, owning a tow truck, recycling, and scraping and doing lawn maintenance for his friends. He was always a hard worker and always looking to keep busy. For the last several years Melvin was a caretaker to his son, Troy.

While Melvin had 3 biological children, he was a father to many. Melvin is survived by his sons Mel, Troy, Brian and Dennis and his daughters Larissa, Corinna, and Kelly. He is preceded in death by his daughter Denna. Melvin was also a proud grandpa to 14 grandkids and 28 great- grandkids. But, if you knew him, you knew that these numbers always changed.  Melvin is also survived by his longtime partner Cheryl Houston.

Melvin had a dynamic life full of hard work, many friends and lots of love. He was a generous, helpful, non-judgmental man who never met a stranger. He will be remembered for saying “ok babe,” being dependable, caring and always good for a cup of coffee.

A Funeral will be held at Allen Mortuary on Wednesday, January 31st at 6pm.

A Graveside service will be held at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery on Thursday, February 1st starting at 10am.
