Dennis Alvin Speer
December 1948 ~ June 2024
Dennis Speer of Turlock, California has passed away at the age of 75. He was born in Palo Alto, CA to Alvin and Illatreen Speer. He grew up in Mountain View and in Sunnyvale CA. He graduated from Fremont High School where he was a manager for the basketball and football teams. He also was a singer in the A Choir and Smixens group.
Dennis was a person who loved the Lord and was in 2 gospel quartets in his life, sang in many church choirs and worship teams.
He married Barbara Croyle in 1991. Dennis contributed two daughters to the family and Barbara contributed two sons and a daughter.
Dennis worked as a courier and as a driver for Westinghouse Defense for 25 years.
At age 2 ½ he suffered a hard course of polio with many years of recovering from it. Although able to live a fairly normal life, he had to retire at age 47 due to the impacts of polio. As a retiree, he developed a passion for photography and had a very creative eye for good pictures, winning prizes in camera clubs and county fairs.
Dennis is survived by his wife Barbara Speer, his two daughters Kimberly Bernard and Kristy Martin, and step children Terry Fitzsimmons, Patty Yandell, and Joe Fitzsimmons.
A Memorial service will be held at Calvary Chapel of Turlock, 147 S. Broadway on Friday, July 12, 10:00 a.m.
