Cary Eldon Summers
October 9, 1938 – February 26, 2025

The world lost one of its great treasures yesterday. Loving husband, father, grandfather and all around exemplary human being, Cary Summers passed away at Covenant Living of Turlock early yesterday morning. He was 86.
Cary was born in Rigby Idaho to Eldon and Clella Summers. He married the love of his life on May 18, 1963. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Summers, 4 children; Linda Neal, Eldon (Margie) Summers, Camille (David) Summers-Finlayson, Scott (Kristy) Summers; brother Garry Summers, 13 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
Cary influenced countless lives in the Turlock area as a middle school English teacher for more than 30 years. He served his country proudly as a sonar technician on a Naval destroyer before beginning his teaching career and owned and operated a successful koi pond maintenance business in the early years of his retirement. He spent most summers of his adult life as a commercial fisherman in Alaska and taught his children the value of a hard day’s work and the thrill of an adrenaline rush while harvesting salmon in Alaska’s rough and icy waters. He was a competent electrician and not too shabby at plumbing and basic carpentry. In short, he was larger than life and could do anything he put his mind to (these words were often said by Cary to his children). Cary was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
If love is patient, kind, humble and does not envy, then Cary Summers was love, personified. He never met a stranger and was remembered fondly by his students. He always had a smile, made the most of every situation and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was the brightest light and will continue to light the way for the loved ones he left behind.
Memorial contributions can be made in Cary’s memory to Connecting Point Church of the Nazarene 3200 E. Monte Vista Ave. Denair, CA 95316. A celebration of Cary’s life will be held at Connecting Point Church of the Nazarene on Monday, March 3, 2025 at 11:00a.m.
