On June 16th Jim was called home to be with his Heavenly Father. He was born in Ceres, and lived the majority of his life in Hughson. Jim was a graduate of Ceres High and entered the U.S. Navy in May 1966. He served on active duty during the Vietnam War. Jim received an honorable discharge in January 1972 and was awarded several service medals including a Silver Star. Upon his discharge from the Navy, Jim returned to the Ceres/Hughson area and farmed for his family’s company Salter Farms. Jim loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, hunter, and boater. He also loved bowling and was in several local bowling leagues. Jim was a devoted believer in Christ and a lifelong member of Ceres Christian Church. He was a much-loved brother, uncle, and dear friend and he will be greatly missed. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Wayne & Florence Salter. He is survived by his sisters, Claudia (Pete) Grubeck, Jeanne (Bob) Lackey and brothers Judge Timothy (Shirley) Salter and Pastor Tom (Barbara) Salter. He also leaves behind nieces Joni Criscione, Tina Weber, Melina Lucchini, Julie DeWitt, Kimberly Jacobson, Rebecca Kerr, Amy Salter and Elissa Salter as well as nephews Steven Lackey and Travis Lang. Services will be held on June 30, 2023. A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. at Lakewood Memorial in Hughson with military honors, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Ceres Christian Church located on Roeding Road.
