September 16, 1931 – May 20, 2021
Adela was born to Mariano and Francisca “Siquita” Sierra in Manati, Puerto Rico. She married Juan R. Nieves Sr. on July 23, 1954 and (after a few years of divorce) she remarried him on June 21, 1975 until his passing on September 29th, 2012. She had loving daughter, Mercedes Davis (who passed away in 2016).
Family moved from Puerto Rico to San Francisco in 1966. From San Francisco to East Los Angeles, then to Santa Monica and finally, Adela and Juan moved to Riverbank, Calif. in 1979. During those times, Adela worked in Woolworth (San Francisco), Gillette Papermate company (Santa Monica, Calif.) and finally retired from Blue Diamond Almond Growers (Salida, Calif.).
Beginning in 1974 and until her passing, Adela was honored and blessed to be a baptized Jehovah’s Witness. She truly loved sharing the Good News of God’s Kingdom with others and spending quality time with her “spiritual” Brothers and Sisters. Amazingly, Adela peacefully passed away while listening to her congregational zoom meeting, surrounded by loving family and friends.
Adela is survived by her Brother: Mario Sierra (Brewer, Maine); her Son: Juan R Nieves Jr. [Wife – Denise] (Lodi, Calif.); Grandchildren: Denise Ludlow [Husband – Chris] (Modesto), Wendy Ross [Husband – Jeremy] (Hillsboro, Or.), Jamie Barro [Husband -Tony] (Turlock, Calif.), Joshua Nieves (Los Angeles, Calif.), Jonathan Nieves [Wife – Yvonne] (El Centro, Calif.), Lisa Berreth [Husband – Brandon] (Lodi, Calif.) and Adam Morgan [Wife – Brittany] (Lodi, Calif.) and Eight Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank her two loving caretakers, Kassandra Topete and Miriam Figueroa, who were like family and showed great love to Adela at all times. They thoughtfully and lovingly took care of her needs, even after her passing.
Memorial Service with be held “virtually” via a Zoom meeting on Saturday, June 26th, 2021 at 1p.m (Pacific Standard Time).
