August 1953 – November 2021
Alfred Henderson, also affectionately known as “Big Al”, was a resident of Fresno, CA. He departed this life on November 19, 2021. He was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and grandfather.
Alfred was born to Will Henderson, Jr. and Rosie Henderson on August 23, 1953 in Tunica, Mississippi. The Henderson family relocated from Tunica to Dos Palos, CA, where he received his education and graduated from Dos Palos High School Class of 1972. Alfred (Al) played baseball and football during his high school years.
Al joined the U.S. Army after graduating from high school. He was passionate about his military duties. His loyalty and hard work earned him the rank of Sergeant Henderson. He also received the National Defense Service and Good Conduct Medals and an honorable discharge for his military service.
Al and his family united with Jesus Name Temple in Dos Palos, CA, where he received Christ and was baptized at a young age. Al was not shy when it came to sharing his faith and love for God. He joined Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Chowchilla, where he was a member until the Lord called him home.
Al relocated from Dos Palos to the Bay Area where he was employed by the Veteran’s Administration for 45 years. He worked in different jobs and retired as a Pipefitter. Al was recognized by leadership on numerous occasions for his outstanding work performance.
His pastime enjoyments consisted of coaching baseball and filming his children’s sporting events. His most recent love was riding his Harley motorcycle and going on bike runs with the Black Pearl Motorcycle Club. Al took pride in working hard, paying his bills on time, and dressing up in monotone suits, as he did not believe in mixing colors. His love for roulette made him a gambler when it came to the number “33”.
Al was a people person and a stranger’s best friend. He loved to talk and could strike up a friendly conversation with anyone he came in contact with. Al was transparent and believed in “keeping it real” when sharing his opinions. He treated everyone with kindness. His infectious laugh and zest for life rubbed off on those around him.
Al was preceded in death by his parents Will Henderson, Jr., Rosie Hutton and Odell Hutton, brother David Henderson, and sister Terry Phillips.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children Ashley Wilson (Dennis) of Charlotte, NC, Marquis Henderson of Fresno, CA, Shylese Henderson of Philadelphia, PA, Quinyan Skinner (Kenric) of Columbia, SC and Quinyette Harris of Fayetteville, NC; sisters Geraldine Hall (Perscell) of Milpitas, CA, Patricia Juarez (Tony) of Fresno, CA, and Michelle Alexander (Steven) of Stockton, CA; grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host or relatives and friends.
Al, although you have left us too soon, we will cherish the memories we created with you and the infectious, happy and fun-loving energy that you shared with us all.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 11:30am at Fierro Family Funeral Home, 1702 Golden Gate Ave., Dos Palos, CA 93620.
