Arthur Henry Pargament

June 13, 1938 ~ May 14, 2023

Arthur Pargament of Turlock has passed away at the age of 84. He was born in Santa Cruz, California to Joseph and Virginia Pargament.

Arthur graduated from Mt. Diablo High School, Concord, CA, where he was inducted in the Class of 1957 Sports Hall of Fame.

He earned his Bachelor’s degree after studies at CSU Chico, University of the Pacific, and Pepperdine University. He served in the US Army from 1961 to 1963, and worked in a variety of fields including public school instruction, butchery, and food inspection for the USDA, primarily working at Foster Farms locally.

Arthur met his love, Shirley, in 1989 at a Parents Without Partners dance where the couple loved to dance each week. They were married on August 24, 1991 and lived in Modesto until 2013 when they relocated to Turlock, California.

Predeceased by his parents, Arthur is survived by his wife Shirley of nearly 32 years, three children by a prior marriage, Debbie Skelton (Brett) of Rio Vista, CA; Phillip Pargament (Cindy) of Roy, NM; Stephen Pargament of Ft. Worth, TX; and his stepson, Patrick McGrath of Laguna Beach, CA.

He is further survived by nine grandchildren, Tawni Campbell, Joe Jarratt, Cameron Pargament, Devon Pargament, Jessica Pargament, Emmi Pargament, Finn Pargament, Madison McGrath, and Riley (McGrath) Kester. In addition, Arthur was blessed with, and is survived by, twelve great grandchildren.

Arthur enjoyed playing golf and was one of the local founders of the Central Valley Pickle Ball Club, which he also enjoyed playing. He was active in the SIR (Senior Activities for Men) Turlock Branch #143 and in his local homeowner association.

Rarely would you find a San Francisco Giants, San Francisco 49’ers, or a Golden State Warriors game that he was not watching or attending. Most lazy weekend afternoons were reserved for PGA golf on television.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Turlock Church of Christ, 801 North Tully Road, Turlock, CA with a reception immediately after in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions either to Alexander Cohen Hospice House, 4368 Spires Way, Modesto, CA 95356, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
