Avis Moulton

June 1938 ~ May 2019

Avis Rosalee Moulton went home to be with the Lord on May 16, 2019. Avis was lovingly surrounded by her family at home at the time of her passing. Avis was born June 30th, 1938 to Jess and Ruth Verhoef in Prairie View, Kansas. She moved to Pella, Iowa in 1950 after her father passed away from complications with Multiple Sclerosis. She graduated High School in 1956 and then went to Art School in Los Angeles, CA. After college she met and married Ronald William Moulton in 1961. Ron and Avis had one daughter Ronda in 1964 and adopted a boy, Raymon in 1968. They moved to Modesto in 1965 where Avis was a homemaker and Ron worked at the Modesto Airport as an air traffic controller. Avis kept busy raising children, selling Avon and participating in various church activities. She loved to paint furniture and murals, she could always be counted on to put her talents to use for any good cause.

Avis and Ron moved to Turlock in 1972 and Avis started working for Covenant Village of Turlock in 1978. She began as a hostess in the dining room and enjoyed her interaction with the residents and the young high school and college age people who worked in the dining room and kitchen, she was a great problem solver and much loved by both age groups. Later she became the Activities Director and pursued studies in gerontology. In 1990 Ron and Avis realized a life long dream to move to the mountains and became residents of Mariposa, CA. Avis became the Activities Director for John C. Fremont Hospital where she organized fundraisers, events, and created a memorial garden for the residents with support from the community. Avis worked well into her 70’s until she was forced to retire when Ron became ill and they needed to move close to family in 2012.

Avis was active in mission work and had many opportunities to attend mission trips to Mexico and the Philippines. She traveled to Europe, Tokyo, and Hong Kong as well. Avis was an accomplished seamstress and would sew doll clothes and attend doll shows to show off her talents. She loved to create and later loved to garden when sewing became too difficult.

Avis is survived by her daughter Ronda Malmberg (David), her grandsons Devon Malmberg, Elias (Alysia) Malmberg, Jerad (Raeanna) Malmberg and Cody (Monique) Malmberg. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ron and her brother Calvin Verhoef and sister Joyce Boogerd.

Memorial Gifts can be given to Covenant Care Hospice. The family would like to thank Covenant Care Hospice for the loving care given to Avis and her family her last few days this side of heaven.
