Bernice Geraldine Wright (Mattos) of Samaritan Village in Hughson, Ca passed away peacefully on February 7, 2024. Bernice was born in Alameda, Ca on September 13, 1920 and grew up in Oakland, Ca. She graduated from San Francisco State College in 1942 and met her husband Herbert Wright while working as a counselor in the Sierra at SF State’s Summer Camp at Silver Lake.
She began her teaching career in Oakland and later taught in San Leandro and Castro Valley, where she raised her family. She was a Girl Scouts Brownie Mother and Boy Scouts Den Mother and a past member of the Hayward Emblem Club. In 1979 she retired from teaching.
She was a 40 year member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha and life member of the California Teachers Association.
She was also a docent at Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park while living in Pioneer, Ca.
She came to live in Turlock in 2000 and was a member of The First United Methodist Church.
Over her long lifetime she enjoyed family, friends, clubs, volunteering, camping and travel.
Her husband of 55 years, Herbert L. Wright, preceded her in death.
She leaves behind son Brian A. Wright (Nancy), daughter Marsha A. Faull (Mark) and grandson Raymond Faull.
