It is with great sadness that the Campbell family announces the death of Bruce Allen Campbell. Bruce, age 84, passed away peacefully in his sleep February 6, 2022. Bruce was born on August 13, 1937 in Oakland, California. He moved to Modesto in 1955 where he resided for 67 years.

The son of Neil Allen Campbell and Clare Campbell, he graduated from Modesto High in 1955. At age 16, Bruce signed on with the Merchant Marines (Norwegian ship) for a short time, followed by an additional 13 years in the California National Guard. During his time with the Guard, in 1965 he was sent to help with the Watts riots.

In 1958, he married his soulmate of 64 years, Delores Esther Campbell, in Reno, NV. Bruce retired in 1990 after 35 years of service with Scenic General Hospital, Food Service, working both as a cook and eventually a supervisor. Followed by an additional 5 years with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office (Food Service).

Bruce was passionate about the history of Nevada gambling as well as an avid collector of casino memorabilia. He was an active member of the Casino Chips and Gaming Tokens Collectors Club. Bruce also enjoyed photography and videography, developing his own photos in in his darkroom studio. Bruce and his loving wife, Delores, loved to travel domestically and internationally together.

Preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Delores Esther Campbell; his two sisters Joan White and Dorothy Sturdevant; his three children Susan (Dayle) Crook, Neil (Dee) Campbell, and John (Patty) Campbell; his seven grandchildren Jared (Kylee) Crook, Justin (Lilly) Crook, Jordan (Nicole) Crook, Michael (Rosalind) Campbell, Hailey Campbell, Annie Metcalf and Kelsey Andasola; and his four great-grandchildren Cameron and Olivia Crook, Mason Campbell, and Josephine Crook.

Remembrances to honor Bruce can be made to Allen Mortuary of Turlock.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Bristol Hospice of Modesto, CA.
