Charles A. Ford Sr. March 2, 1933 - September 21, 2024

Date of Service

January 10, 2024

Charles A. Ford Sr., born in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1933, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter. He was the eldest son of Charlie Ford Jr. and Lena Mae Ford, and the proud brother to Julius, Donald Ray, Terry, Brian, Geraldine, Corella, Sherrell, Lionel, Ossie, Melissa, Dexter, Melvin, Pat, and Emma Ruth.

Charles married the love of his life, Gloria Jane Ford, on October 27, 1951. Their journey began in Opelousas, Louisiana, where they welcomed the first seven of their ten children. In 1961, the family moved to Seaside, California, where Gloria gave birth to their three youngest children. By 1967, they settled in San Jose, California, where Charles became an integral member of the community.

A devoted parishioner, Charles was a God-fearing man who was actively involved in the Friendship Church of God in Christ, serving as the Head Deacon since 1967. Known for his vibrant spirit, he delighted friends and neighbors with his unique ability to bark like a dog and share countless jokes, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.

In addition to his community and family life, Charles had a passion for music. He enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica, often playing at church, family gatherings and in the living room, where everyone would join in, enjoying the moment. Music was a way for him to connect with others, and he had a knack for selecting the perfect song: You got to move, My soul loves Jesus, and Jesus on the main line, to get everyone involved. Favorite scripture:   James 5:15 KJV  “and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.”

Charles A. Ford Sr. had a profound appreciation for nature and the great outdoors, which he passionately shared with his family and friends. His love for adventure was evident in the family camping trips they took in an RV that he built himself. This RV was more than just a vehicle; it was a symbol of his creativity, resourcefulness, and dedication to creating memorable experiences for his loved ones. Each camping trip and picnic remains a cherished memory, a testament to a man who loved deeply and lived fully, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the warmth of family and friends.

As his family reflects on his life, they cherish not only the memories of the man he was but also the values he instilled in them. His legacy of love, joy, and faith will continue to resonate in their lives, reminding them of the importance of family bonds, community service, and living life with a sense of humor and gratitude.

Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife Gloria J. Ford, his daughters Carolyn Elaine and Veronica, and his son Dwight Sr. He is survived by his cherished children: Connie, Debra, Lena, Arthur, John Glen, and Charles Jr. He also leaves behind 30 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Charles A. Ford Sr. will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, reminding us of the joy and warmth he brought to our lives.
