Charles Douglas Hutson “Grandpa Chuck” passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024 with his family surrounding him. Charles was born on January 18, 1944 in Sanger, California to his parents Luther and Myrtle Hutson.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sandra Charlene Thornton Hutson of Escalon, California; his daughters Dawn Briggs (Jeffrey) of Farmington, California and Lori Davis (Danny) of Escalon, California. He leaves behind four granddaughters: Stephanie Hodges (Jacob) of Farmington, California, Sarah Orian (Brandon) of Oakdale, California, Samantha Gilroy (Joseph) of Escalon, California, and Sydney Briggs of Farmington, California; two grandsons: Alec Carpenter (Amanda) of Sacramento, California and Devin Carpenter currently serving as a Sergeant in the United States Army; and 3 great grandchildren: Alexander, Jeremy and Penelope. Charles also leaves behind two sisters: Nawatha Reed of Ceres, California and Barbara Fanter of Mason City, Illinois. Charles served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 – 1967. He was a member of the American Legion and a founding member of the American Legion Riders in Escalon, California.
Charles held many jobs throughout his life, but his favorites were being a loving husband, caring father, doting grandfather, and most recently a very proud great grandfather. He was also a great friend, as he never met a stranger. He was well loved by many, and will be greatly missed.
He will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Santa Nella on June 3, 2024, at 10:30 am.
