Clifford Helmuth Bailey II

January 19, 1949 – June 10, 2023

Clifford Bailey of Pacific Grove and Turlock, CA, passed away at the age of 74 of complications to Parkinson’s Disease. Clifford was born to Major Clifford H. and Elizabeth W. Bailey in Carmel, CA. An Army dependent, young Cliff grew up in Japan, Germany and Pacific Grove, Calif.  He moved to Turlock in 1972 to attend CSUS, Stanislaus, directly from his US Army commitments. Cliff graduated with a BA in Fine Art and a California Life Teaching Credential. Cliff was active in the CSUS Alumni Association and served briefly as Alumni President. He worked at CSU Stanislaus for 35 years; eventually retiring from the Facilities Planning and Plant Operations Management team. Upon retirement, Cliff applied his facilities planning and management skills to help rebuild and maintain Turlock’s historic Carnegie Library Art Center. He worked long hours initially and expressed admiration for the tireless Arts Council, Foundation leaders, and Carnegie restoration team he was privileged to work with. Cliff served on the Board for 10 years actively supporting and participating in the local and regional Arts scene.

In addition to his community service in the arts, Cliff was an active local and international scouter. His jamborees include: Chile, Thailand, England, Germany, and West Virginia. In the 1990’s he worked with local scouters and scout families to launch the valley’s first Venture Crew — a coed high adventure program for older teens. The crew backpacked, biked, camped, and rock-climbed. At Florida’s BSA Sea Base, they sailed from Key Largo to Key West, Florida on the ship Calypso Gypsy.  Cliff was also part of BSA’s wood badge program for many years – a training program for BSA adult leadership. He confided to his wife that he just loved it when he got to work on a wood badge kitchen crew. He used his red aprons regularly. Cliff received the silver beaver award for scouting.

Cliff is survived by his wife, Ann; his son Clifford and wife Stephanie of Turlock; his sister Bonnie of Mariposa; his nephew Grant of Mariposa; and his niece Katie of Salinas.

The memorial service will be held at the Carnegie Center for the Arts
