Dana was born in Carmel, CA and was the third of six children. She attended schools in Dos Palos, Merced and Hilmar, CA. She was a 1970 graduate of Hilmar High School where she met her future husband, Ken. Ken and Dana were married in January 1971 and their son Erik was born in April of 1972.
Dana was active in the parent’s clubs at Hopeton and Washington schools while her son was attending and helped plan and organize various fund-raising events including the annual “Art in The Park” held at Henderson Park in Snelling CA. Dana worked as a retail sales associate for Mervyns department store in Turlock for 22 years. She excelled in the Jewelry department and worked up to a position in Visual Merchandising. Her co-workers at Mervyns were like a second family to her and she made many strong friendships while there. She received Associate of the Year award while working there.
Dana retired from working when Mervyns closed in 2008. Dana loved the ocean and the California coast and after retirement made several vacation trips with her mother and sister to coastal cities including Capitola, Pacific Grove, Pismo Beach and Avila Beach. She was an avid reader and enjoyed collecting books by her favorite murder mystery authors.
Family was always very important to her, and she enjoyed the time she got to spend with them during holidays and birthday gatherings. She was a very good cook.
Dana was preceded in death by her father and mother, Clyde and Neavis Huckobey, older brothers Hal and Gary Huckobey and younger sister Patricia Ridge. She is survived by her husband Ken, son Erik, two younger brothers Chris and Rod Huckobey, and four grandchildren, Ewan, Galen, Sean, and Katherine.
She died peacefully at home under hospice care with her loving family due to complications from a long- term illness.
A Memorial Service will be held at Allen Mortuary on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
