It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of DeAnn “Honey” Hawkins on Friday, November 29th. Born in Los Angeles, California, to Clifton Baptist and Shirley Jean Lambert, DeAnn moved to Turlock as a teenager, where she grew up, married, and built her family.
DeAnn was the epitome of devotion as a mother. She dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her children, always ensuring their needs were met, no matter what. Her life was shaped by love, strength, and an unwavering commitment to her family. She was the heart and soul of our family, and so many of our happiest memories are thanks to her.
For 15 years, DeAnn worked with passion and dedication at a local winery. Her enthusiasm for the job was contagious, and she became an irreplaceable member of their team. Her pride in her work was evident, and her colleagues adored her in return.
Outside of work, DeAnn had a vibrant, larger-than-life personality that could light up any room. Spontaneous, outgoing, and full of energy, she made every moment feel special. One of her greatest joys was sharing stories, and she had many — none more cherished than her love for the Green Bay Packers. She was a passionate fan, and a trip to Lambeau Field left her feeling like part of a greater family. She even spent time in a stranger’s home, enjoying chili with fellow Packers fans—a memory she held close to her heart.
Her strength wasn’t just in her personality—it was part of her very spirit. Independent and determined, DeAnn faced life’s challenges with unshakable resilience. Even in the face of multiple strokes, she never let anything hold her back. Her sense of humor, perseverance, and grace inspired everyone who knew her.
DeAnn was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. She leaves behind her children, Ryan Attaway, Joseph Attaway II, and her only daughter, Tammica Gipson (Rickey), along with her five grandchildren who refer to her as “Honey”: Jeah Boyd, Miyana Attaway, Keanyn Boyd, Rowyn Attaway, Raya Attaway, and her “Mickey Mouse,” Issa Gipson. She was also loved by many other family members, friends, past classmates, and coworkers who will miss her deeply.
Although she is no longer with us, her legacy lives on in the stories we share, the lessons she taught us, and the love she gave. Mom, we are forever grateful for everything you did for us, for the strength you showed, and for the love you gave so freely.
In honor of our mother’s wishes, there will be no viewing or funeral service. Instead, we will celebrate her life on Saturday, January 18th in Turlock, California.
Please contact her daughter, Tammica, for more details.
