DellaMae A. Mitzel September 27, 1931 - March 10, 2024

Date of Service

March 21, 2024

DellaMae Arlene Mitzel, 92, passed away March 10th 2024 in Turlock, CA. Born in Artas, South Dakota to Fred and Adeline Zimmerman. DellaMae met the love of her life Albert “Bud” Mitzel while she was working at the soda fountain in the local Rexall drug store and it was love at first sight. They were married in the Artas Baptist Church in the spring of 1949 and spent 67 wonderful years together. Most people who knew Bud and Della knew they were two peas in a pod, you didn’t see one without the other. They loved to go dancing and travel in their RV with their friends and family. As a family they moved to Turlock, CA in 1961 where DellaMae spent her days raising their 3 children, as well as working at the local Penguins ice cream shop and Stanislaus State in food service where you would always find her greeting someone with her infectious smile. She worked in the food service for 30 years, However DellaMae’s favorite role was being a mother to her 3 children and a “Nonnie” to her granddaughter. Most people who knew and loved Della called her “Nonnie” and she wore that name like a badge of honor. DellaMae enjoyed playing church hymns on her organ, completing crossword puzzles from the daily newspaper, cooking up her famous Kuchen pie in her kitchen and spending her afternoons catching up on Days of Our Lives. Bud and DellaMae were members of The First United Methodist Church of Turlock since 1961.

In addition to her parents, DellaMae is preceded in death by her loving husband Albert “Bud” Mitzel, 6 siblings, and 2 sons, Douglas and Bryan Mitzel. She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Mitzel of Turlock CA, granddaughter Shelby Williams (Mitchell) of Dover, TN and her great grandson Everett Williams of Dover, TN.

The family would like to thank the wonderful people of Seva Hospice Care as well as Cogir of Turlock who provided DellaMae with their love, care and compassion.

A Graveside Service will be held for DellaMae at Turlock Memorial Park on Thursday, March 21 starting at 11:00am.
