Sept. 1930 – Oct. 2018
Her contagious giggle. The twinkle in her eye when she said something funny. Her
never ending quest to find a use for every item she encountered. The funniest
places she would place her latest treasures. Her great love of sunny afternoons at
the beach. Her friendship with all animals – from dogs to hummingbirds. Her
absolute unending devotion to her family and friends, and her resolute belief that
every person and every thing had value and was deserving of love.
These and more are the most vivid memories of an amazing lady who lead a
remarkable life.
Doris Mae Reinitz, age 88, of Santa Clarita, California, was called to the Lord on
October 3, 2018. She passed away held and surrounded by loved ones in the home
she adored. Doris is survived by her beloved husband, Jerry and their two children,
Lee and Marcy. She was blessed with six grandsons and five great Grandchildren.
She was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, to the late Claude and Edith Sherrell on
September 23, 1930. Doris attended cosmetology school as a teen in St. Louis,
Missouri, before arriving in Denair, California. This is when she met the love of
her life, Air Force Staff Sergeant Jerry Reinitz and married on November 25,
1954. Doris, Jerry and their young son, Lee, were stationed at Ellsworth Air Force
Base in South Dakota, where their daughter Marcy joined the family.
Upon Jerry’s discharge, the family moved to Oxnard, California, where Jerry
started his career in the private sector. Doris’ deep passion of helping other people
led her to a career as a physical therapist. She became a well-known and
accomplished team member. Physicians often requested fher or difficult cases,
knowing she was a hard worker who they trusted to get the job done well.
Tucked away in an oak forest Doris and her family made Canyon Country their
permanent home in 1967. Doris loved the wildlife, the plants and the country
lifestyle. Once the kids had grown, Doris and Jerry traveled extensively, mostly in
their motor home, crisscrossing the nation and spending many summer days at the
beach. In the last years of her life Doris grew close to her Lord, sending many
sincere prayers for her loved ones to heaven. Her boundless love enriched all who
knew her and continues to bless us.
Graveside service will be held in Denair Cemetery, Friday, Oct. 12, 2018 at 1:00pm.
