Douglas Fruetel, of Turlock, passed away on October 27, 2018, at the age of 84; just two weeks shy of his 85th birthday. He was born in Lisbon, North Dakota and raised in Vergas, Minnesota since the age of ten. Douglas enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952 and was stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge in 1956, he came back to Minnesota where he met and married Adeline Hedlund. They moved to San Fernando then Paradise, CA before settling in Turlock in 1961. Douglas retired from Sanders Cadillac in 2001 as a Mechanic, he was know as “Cadillac Doug”. Doug enjoyed reading history and doing crossword puzzles. He was a member of both Turlock V.F.W. and American Legion.
Doug is survived by his loving wife Adeline Fruetel; two sons Byron (Lily Ventura) and John (Danna) Fruetel; four grandchildren Sheila Ventura, Carrie Carlson, Amber Fruetel, and Axel Fruetel; and great grandchildren Cailynn and Bobby. He is also survived by his siblings John Fruetel, Elda Rodgers, and June Hoffmann, and many nieces and nephews. Doug is preceded in death by his parents Fredrick and Laura Fruetel, sister Louis Rootlieb and brother Buck Fruetel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Community Hospice in care of Alexander Cohen Hospice House.
A private graveside will be held at Turlock Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life will held on Veterans Day, Sunday, Nov. 11 at 12:oopm at American Legion Hall, 75 Bothun Rd., Turlock.
