Elwood Eric Johnson

March 1925 – July 2024

Elwood Eric Johnson, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 99 on July 12, 2024. His devout commitment to his Lord, Jesus Christ was evident throughout this life. We celebrate his victory with confidence, knowing that his Savior has escorted him home with the embrace “Well done my good and faithful servant”.

A long-time resident of Denair, Elwood was born into a large Swedish-American family in Turlock, California where he lived his entire life. Elwood married Beverly, the love of his life, in 1949. Elwood and Beverly were founding members of Turlock’s Monte Vista Chapel.

Elwood’s sense of humor and love of a corny joke was evident to all who knew him. He found great joy in the blessings of his extended family. He will be greatly missed.

Elwood is survived by his six children Dennis (Donna) Johnson of Visalia, Stanley (Julie) Johnson of Flagstaff, Jennifer Fair of Turlock, Annette (Steve) Mills of Thunder Bay, Canada, Cynthia (Jon) Appleby of Turlock, and Lisa (Daryl) Jordan of Mount Hermon. He is survived by 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Lt. Stanley Johnson, USN and his two sisters Florence Davis and Jeune Lindquist.  He leaves behind his band of brothers Merlyn Johnson, Vernon Johnson, Bertle Johnson, and Richard Johnson.

Elwood was a long-time farmer in the Turlock and Denair area. Over 50 years ago Beverly and Elwood opened Johnson’s Antiques in Denair. They enjoyed spending time traveling the Midwest searching for antiques and making life-long friends along the way.

A family Graveside Service will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024 at 9am at Turlock Memorial Park.

The Memorial Service will be at 12pm on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Monte Vista Chapel.
