March 24, 1927 – August 31, 2021
In the early morning hours of August 31, 2021, a beloved night shift nurse ended her final shift on this earth. Eva Frances Smallwood Jones passed away quietly and among loved ones in Modesto, CA.
Eva is survived by her sons Jerry Jones (Roxanne), Jim Jones (Debbie), Bob Jones (Gerianne); her daughters Kathie Hira (Paul), Karolyn Karamchandani (David), and Dot Jones (Bridgett); her twelve grandchildren; and her nineteen great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert Lewis Jones, her father James Smallwood, her mother Eva Smiley Smallwood, and her sister Dorothea.
Eva was known to be an incredibly steadfast, hardworking individual who had a passion for antiques, art, music, travel, and history (especially the Civil War). Though she did not achieve her dream of being “an old retired colonel” from the Army Cadet Nurse Corps, she lived on to have many experiences serving as a nurse in multiple capacities, many of which she would share with her children and grandchildren whenever they would come to visit her ranch in Hilmar, CA. Her wit, sense of humor, and stubbornness will be forever missed but always remembered by the stories she told.
A memorial service will be held 10am at Allen Mortuary in Turlock, CA, on Saturday, September 4th.
