Fred Carl McPherson

November 1938 ~ November 2018

Fred was born in Modesto, CA to Howard and Dorothy McPherson and passed away at the age of 79. He will be remembered as a loving and caring Dad, Papa and friend to many.  Fred had a great sense of humor and always had words of wisdom and encouragement for someone in need.  His family could call him anytime something was broken and Fred would drop everything to fix it.  Family always came first in his life.

He worked for Rainbo Baking Company as a fleet manager for 37 years.  Fred was a mentor to many people at work and even after his retirement he kept in touch with his coworkers.  His hobbies included woodworking, fishing and he enjoyed working on projects with his grandkids.  He was a collector of antiques and enjoyed BBQing, making chili beans and beef jerky for his family.

He served in the United States Army from 1959-1962 where he was stationed in Germany for a time; his rank was an SP5.  Fred was on the board of directors with Journeyman and also mentored inmates for Deuel Vocational Institution.  He was a man of faith and loved God.  He attended and served at Crosspoint Community Church for many years.

Fred leaves behind his children Diane (Jim) Heppner, Jacqueline (Mark) Villines, Chris McPherson and Jennifer (Brian) Kleiber; grandchildren Zachary (Amy) Villines, Barbara Villines, Benjamin (Sara) Villines, Katie (Andrew) Love, Kasha Bussell and Victoria McPherson; great grandchildren Kinsley Villines, William Villines, Owen Villines, Carson Campbell, Gracie Mae Love, Faith Love and Ryder Bussell; and sister Judith Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Annette Susie McPherson, his parents, and his siblings Charles McPherson and Lynn Taylor.

A committal service with military honors will be held at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery on Monday, November 19th, 2018 at 9:30a.m.

  2. David and Linda Takvorian says

It seems that there are always people who pass through our lives and those who touch us and remain a part of us. Fred ever so kindly became a friend “back in the day” when he shared his bread truck with a group of first graders in his grand daughter’s class. He was like a king to them. Such a sweet and patient man.

Fred and Annette were a team of positive energy. He always smiled and waited as she enjoyed her conversations. Our friend will be missed…

Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

  3. Johnny and Judy Smith says

Johnny and I feel blessed to have known Fred. We met Fred and Annette when we moved to California, we became very good friends. We felt like their family was our family. He and Chris were planning another trip to see us, we are so sorry this didn’t happen. He loved his family so much. We will miss him very much! Love to all the family.

  4. Teresa O'Rourke says

I bought the house across the street in 1992. I met Annette when she brought Easter baskets to my girls. Any time I wanted to do something around the house Annette would say “Freddie can do that”. Hence I met Fred. What I know about Fred’s legacy is that he’ll be remembered for his love of family, his kindness and support of others, and his pride of country. I’m so happy he’s at peace-he fought the fight! I’m so proud to be a friend of a great man!

  5. Alan A Velazquez says

I first met Uncle Fred when he came for a visit in an RV to San Antonio with Aunt Annette and two of his children Chris and Jennifer. I was in high school at the time. I was his brothers step son but he always treated me like I was blood (family) even after his brother passed on I was still treated like family and always welcome to visit. I was happy to have him in my life.
