    From FRANK BLANAS:

Mr. Stabelfeld was my teacher at Downey High in the fall of 1985. On the first day of class, I walked in wearing a Dodgers baseball cap. He looked at me and said, “Wrong team”! Then, he asked if I was a ball player. I sat down and he grabbed a tennis ball and threw a perfect palm ball. I had never seen a ball move in such a way. From that moment on we got along great! He soon brought a big scrapbook and it was impressive. He won 24 games in the Cal League and was Bob Gibson’s roommate in AAA Omaha. He was very good to me and a lot of kids at Downey. I’d like to send my condolences to the family. Thank you Mr. Stabelfeld!
