On January 25, 2023, Howard Arthur Sturtevant “Bill”, father, pop-pop, friend, and colleague, passed away peacefully in his home in Turlock, surrounded by the love of his family and friends at the age of 87 years. Bill is predeceased by his father, Howard Arthur Sturtevant, his mother, A’Dele Libby Sturtevant, and his only sister, Pat Walker. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his three daughters Cristie, Sandy, and Jen, numerous grandchildren, a growing number of great-grandchildren, and the stepchildren he has had the honor to care for along the way, Jerry, Suzie, Greg, Michael and Michelle. Bill’s family, friends and colleagues will cherish their memories of happy times together with him for many years to come.
Bill Sturtevant was born in Oakdale, California, and raised in Nevada City, California with his sister Pat. During these years, he was an active athlete and graduated from the first class of Nevada Union in 1953. He went on to earn his Associate’s Degree at the College of San Mateo and then served in the United States Army. He moved to Twin Falls, Idaho and created a business, Sturdy Built campers, which he later brought back to California. Years later, Bill returned to the Central Valley where he managed a camper shell and modular units business. He later served as the Executive Director of two nonprofits, United Samaritans Foundation and We Care Program – Turlock. For nearly three decades, Bill was a leader in the fight against hunger and homelessness in our community.
Bill’s caring and compassionate heart impacted the lives of many and was a beacon of light for his family. For Bill, family was the center of his world, and he modeled what it means to love unconditionally throughout their lives. Let’s honor Bill through celebrating his life, giving back to others, and loving unconditionally. He will be forever in our hearts and memories.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at Allen Mortuary, 247 N Broadway Turlock, CA. Catholic Memorial Mass details will be announced at a later date.
