Idella Mae Coon was born August 22, 1939 to Loy and Zua Callahan. She was named after her
two Grandmothers, Ida and Ella. She was the youngest of three sisters. Idella grew up on her
family farm in Denair Ca. She attended Denair schools. As a young 19 year old she ventured
off on her own, moving to Arizona. There she worked as a U-HAUL secretary and was set up
on a date by her friend. That date was with Frank Coon, who she married six months later on
November 18, 1961. They honeymooned all the way to Hancock MI. where Frank’s entire family
lived. There they welcomed their eldest child, Robin. Shortly after Robin turned one they
packed up their belongings and moved back to Idella’s hometown, Denair Ca. In the first few
years back in Denair they welcomed their two sons, Chuck and Paul, and started their own
family business, Take-A-Break Foods. As a young mother she held the house together while
she simultaneously managed the kitchen and the staff all while being the baker and manager of
the business. While running the business they also built her dream home on their family farm.
This home had a kitchen designed exactly for her with every little detail carefully thought out
and created to make her love of baking and cooking even more efficient and smooth. She also
had the perfect sewing desk designed exactly they way she dreamed. Idella was a master
seamstress. She sewed all her clothes and children’s clothes. She even made her own
wedding dress.
In the later years of life Idella helped run another business adventure with Frank, All About
Windows and Screens. She was the business manager and financial operator. They also
bought a RV and would spend portions of their Summers traveling to Michigan to visit Frank’s
family and to Florida to visit their son and his family. She loved to be in the mountains or the
desert. She found peace and beauty in both. Especially the Painted Desert. She also found
enjoyment in her garden. Whether it was her stunning flower garden or delicious vegetable
garden she loved making everything look perfectly right. The sight of beautiful flowers and
scenery made her day. She enjoyed being surrounded by God’s creation.
Frank and Idella also enjoyed spending time with their family, especially their Grandchildren
and Great Grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. She always had candy bars or cookies
for them every time they’d go to her house, even if it was daily! The children always knew,
going to Grandma’s house meant treats! She also found great pleasure in reading to them and
teaching them her way of making and baking foods+cookies.
Idella spent her whole life serving the local church. She even helped plant LightHouse Family
Church, where she attended all the way into her final weeks on earth. She loved being a part of
church with many in her family.
January 17th, 2023 surrounded by her husband of 61 years, Granddaughter and two Great
Grandchildren she suddenly and peacefully left this earth and went to her true home. She
longed for heaven and to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior.
