Irene Aiko Yamamoto passed away on Friday morning of August 30, 2024, at The Terraces at Bethany in Ripon, CA. She was born on Monday, November 12, 1934, in Loomis, CA to Rev. Iwakichi and Tei Haratani. Irene was the 6th of 7 children. Irene attended Livingston High School and Modesto Junior College. While living in Livingston, she met her future husband Peter Yamamoto whom she married in 1956. Peter was a farmer in Cortez where Irene became a farmer’s wife and started their family. The first born was Mike, then Cyndi, Gregg and Julie.
Irene enjoyed astronomy, painting, stained glass, machine quilting and bird watching. In her later years, she would travel the world with her birding companion Jeannie Okuye. They would go birding all over the Central Valley and had traveled to Costa Rica, Africa, Belize to mention a few of the countries.
Irene is preceded in death by her husband Peter, daughter Cyndi Fletcher (Rick), brothers James, Tom, Joe and sister Mary. Her survivors are siblings, Grace Aikawa of Oakland, David Haratani of El Cerrito, Children, Mike (Gail) Yamamoto of Fresno, Gregg (Kathy) Yamamoto of Fresno and Julie (Mark) Chan of Elk Grove, Grandchildren Lauren (Eric) Hou, Kristy Fletcher, Brandon Yamamoto, Scott Yamamoto, Jacob Yamamoto and Megan Yamamoto.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or The Audubon Society.
Her celebration of life will be held on Monday, October 21, 2023, at 1:00 PM at the Allen Mortuary, 247 North Broadway, Turlock, CA. 95380.
