James Allen Barton, 78, of Hollister, passed away on 10/14/2018 after a lengthy illness in Dos Palos, CA.

James Allen Barton was born in Sioux City, Iowa to Leon Sommers Barton and Edna Luena De Wolfe on August 18, 1940.  He went to school in Salinas, CA.  He married Sharon Maudene Simmons on March 8, 1959 in Salinas.  He worked as a Carpenter/Foreman/Superintendent for Mark Nickelson, Joe Cullumber, Farrotte Contsruction for over 30 years.  In his spare time he helped build dozens of friends’ homes and many church projects.  He loved hunting and fishing and spent the better part of his young life repairing and building his kids motorcycles.  He also loved playing Texas Holdem, he was known for chasing it to the river.  His buddies will understand.

James Allen Barton is preceded in death by his father Leon Barton and mother Edna Barton; brother Jack Barton; sister Jacqueline Nelson-Taber; son Mark Anthony Barton.

James is survived by his spouse of 59 years Sharon Maudene Barton; sons Jimmy Barton (Kimberly) and Charles Barton (Lynn); daughter Michele Barton; brother Bill Barton and sister Linda Lenior; twelve grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his best friends and brother/sister in law Bob and Jeanne Simmons; and his previous son in law and grandson in law whom he still loved as family and treated as his own; and many many nephews and nieces who he loved as his own and at least scolded them like they were his own.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30p.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Apostolic Full Gospel Church, 1515 Santa Ana Rd. Hollister, CA.  Danny Jacobo officiating.  Reception will follow at Paine’s Restaurant 421 East Street, Hollister, CA.

Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Sunshine Acres 3405 N. Highley Rd. Mesa, AZ 85215.

    I had the pleasure of meeting Jack in salinas. I am very sorry to hear about James passing, James was a very nice person, we go back quite aways he helped my son Bruce get a sponsor at Yamaha for my sons younger days while he was racing, I send my condolences to you and the family, and as friends I share the loss and I wish you strength and offer friendship at this time may God bless all of you!
