Jeffrey Scott Winton
September 5, 1947 – December 10, 2023
Jeffrey Scott Winton (76) of Turlock, CA died in Turlock on December 10, 2023. He was born in Turlock, CA on September 5, 1947 to Jane & Stoddard Winton. Jeff attended school at Livingston Elementary and Livingston High School before earning a BA at California State University Stanislaus. During his college years he worked at a local shop in Turlock, The Alley Imports, where his love of design became a passion.
Jeff moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1970’s where he owned a flower shop. This further honed his skills in floral design. He spent the bulk of his career as a floral designer working in Half Moon Bay for Nurseryman’s Exchange. Jeff excelled & took great satisfaction in the work he did here. Jeff hosted many LHS student groups at Nurseryman’s where he enjoyed showing them the nursery and explaining the career possibilities. A highlight of these visits for the students came when Jeff invited them to select a beautiful plant to take home as a gift.
Jeff traveled extensively for his job, both domestically and internationally. He made several yearly trips within the US to participate in regional flower shows. But his favorite travels were his yearly trips to Europe to search out the newest trends, colors and designs in the floral industry. He especially loved his time in France, England & Italy.
Jeff was known for his generosity to both family and friends. He provided flowers and plants for each of his nephews’ and niece’s weddings. It was his gift to them. Jeff never arrived for a visit without an armful of goodies—flowers, wine, a special cheese or candles. Often all of the above.
After his retirement Jeff moved back to Turlock where he was surrounded by his family and old friends. He took great joy in spending time at family gatherings— birthdays, holidays, pool parties and Sunday dinners. He also enjoyed attending ball games of his great nephews and niece.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister Leslee Salles, niece Andrea Hogue (Paul) and nephew Ryan Oates, his brother Russell (Jeannie) and nephews Matthew (Lupe) and Scott (Trisha). As well as his great nephews and nieces—Myles Mueller, Rocky Hogue, Annie, Cooper and Owen Winton, Monique and Cody Oates.
There will be a private interment. A remembrance gathering will be held at a later date. Contributions in Jeff’s memory may be made to the Livingston Historical Society or New Beginnings for Merced County Animals.
