November 29, 1928 – December 30, 2021
Loraine was born in Warren, PA on November 29, 1928 to parents Arthur and Mildred Bogren. The family home was in Youngsville, PA and she often spoke fondly of her years growing up there. After graduating high school, Loraine moved with her family to Modesto, CA. As a young woman, she worked as a telephone operator for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph, and as a bookkeeper for Lee Brothers Stationary in Modesto.
On January 29, 1950, she married her oldest brother’s best friend, and the love of her life, Carl Swart. Loraine first met Carl when she was just a little girl and Carl was graduating from high school, but years later, when Carl returned from serving in WWII and discovered that Loraine had grown up, their relationship blossomed into marriage. Their first home was in Glendale, CA where Carl worked various jobs and their first son, Scott, was born. In December of 1950, Carl and Loraine moved back to Modesto, so they could be closer to family and Carl could attend Modesto Junior College to begin obtaining his teaching credential. In 1953, Carl transferred to San Francisco State College, where they lived on campus in converted military barracks and welcomed their second son, Roger, in 1955. In 1961, while Carl was teaching in Brentwood, CA, their daughter, Ann, came along. They ultimately moved back to Modesto in 1963, when Carl obtained a teaching position at La Loma Jr. High School. After Carl retired, they enjoyed traveling in their RV and spending time with their children and grandchildren. They enjoyed a wonderful life of 49 years together until his passing in April 1999.
Loraine was a busy stay-at-home mom until Ann was in school. She then worked part-time for several years at Jimco Truck Plaza in Ripon, CA as a bookkeeper. During this time, she also enjoyed singing with the women’s chorus, Sweet Adelines, and was Chapter President for one term in 1970. Loraine loved life and everything it had to offer. She’d often say, “Life is Gooood!” She loved new adventures, meeting new friends, and exploring new places. She was an avid reader, gardener and family historian. She loved being surrounded by family and friends and was always eager and genuinely interested to hear about the latest happenings in each of their lives.
Loraine is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Mildred Bogren, husband Carl, and brothers Arthur Bogren, John “Les” Bogren, and George Bogren. She is survived by sons Scott (Vicky) and Roger Swart; daughter Ann (Dave); grandson Cory Swart (Roslyn); granddaughters Meg Vann, Stefanie Swart, Sarah Collins (Jareb) and Rachel Smith (Grant); several nieces and nephews; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Lakewood Memorial Park, with a luncheon following.
Remembrances can be sent to the Paralyzed Veterans Association.

January 20, 2022 at 12:09 amWishing all the Swart Family my deepest sympathy in the passing of Loraine. I’m praying for your comfort and peace during this hard time. I still remember when I first met her and found out she was the one actually doing the mechanic work on the old Ford Model A? T?, and I was shocked and impressed! Def a progressive woman for the times. Next, loved watching the friendship and devotion her and my mother Millie Buck shared! Lastly, I will always remember her fun laugh! Blessings to you all-XOXO DENISE POZZOULI (BUCK)
