September 13, 1925 – December 19, 2018
Margaret passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on December 19th at Samaritan Village. In her long life, she was also known as Mom & Gramma. If only one description could describe her, it would be “a woman of faith & a truly good human being with the biggest, most loving heart ever”. Daughter of Lawrence & Ida (Nelson) Hansen & sister of Larry (Jean) Hansen. She graduated from Iowa State University (Ames), where she met husband Ray Rodgers. Married on 4/10/50, they shared 57 years until his passing in 2007. Over the years, they made Visalia; Red Bluff; Mesa, WA; Modesto & finally Hughson home.
Survived by Mindi Lassman (Ray), & Peter (Charlie). Preceded in death by Mary Gonzales & son David (Sheree). Gramma to Dan (Dawn), Skyler, Jordan (Aaron), Mickey & Jack and G-G to Peter, Kenley, & Wendy. She was a 2nd Mom to many of her children’s friends.
In pioneer spirit, Mom & Dad homesteaded in the Columbia Basin. Dad developed the land & Mom worked her magic & managed to make a machine shed into a cozy home for the family.
There were trips to the Holy Land, cycling in Holland, canoeing the Yellowstone River, Elderhostel vacations & many car trips with family & friends.
The best homemaker, caregiver & gramma, she also had other talents to share. She was regular volunteer at church, in the classroom & in the community. She taught a variety of MJC Adult Ed classes including sewing & microwave cooking. A life-long sewer, she became the SV “alteration specialist”. She was a long-time bridge player.
Thank you to the Country Manor caregivers & Community Hospice nurses who took care of Mom. A Celebration of Life will be 12/29/18 from 2-4 pm at Samaritan Village. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Community Hospice Foundation, 2368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356; Hughson United Methodist Church, PO Box 129, Hughson, CA 95326; or your charity of choice.
