Marie Margaret Plaa

Marie Margaret Plaa was born March 27, 1932 to Bernard and Marie Sempe in Chino, CA and entered into rest on January 19, 2019. She was 86. Marie was raised in Chino and graduated from Chino High School. She married Arnold Plaa in 1950.

Together they began their dairy business. In 1963, the family relocated their dairy to Turlock. Marie began driving school bus for the Chatom School District in 1967 and continued until she retired in 1994 with honors.

Marie was proud of her Basque heritage and was a member of the Los Banos Basque Club working at the picnic for many years. She was a sweet, selfless woman and a caregiver for many. Marie loved her family and that legacy has been passed on as they all feel the importance of each other.

She is preceded in death by her husband Arnold, her brother John Sempe, and her son Bernard Plaa. She is survived by her loving family; children, Suzanne (Gary) Wahl and Mike (Tami) Plaa, 21 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank all the staff at St. Thomas Retirement Center which has been Marie’s home since 2012. They are truly Angels that became important to Marie in every aspect of her life as friends, caregivers and spiritual companions.

Mass will be celebrated Friday, January 25, 2019 at 1:00pm at Sacred Heart Church of Turlock. Committal will follow in Turlock Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Thomas Retirement Center, 2937 N. Berkeley Ave., Turlock, CA 95382 or the charity of your choice.

    I was privileged to have worked with Marie for 20+ years. What a special person! She loved her job and was very good at it. She loved the students she transported and had great control over her passengers. It’s not easy keeping your eyes on the road and a couple of rowdy middle schoolers acting up. She very rarely had to bring an unruly student to the office, and when she did, it was with a very calm demeanor. It seemed Marie was always upbeat! I was blessed for having known her. My condolences to the family.
