1939 – 2017
Mary Elizabeth Greene Weiss went peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Monday morning, December 18, 2017.
Mary was strong, fiercely independent, tenacious, and had a sense of humor with a sarcastic edge that kept you wondering and laughing all at the same time. She was born the oldest of three siblings to Mary and Allen Greene in Moline, Illinois on September 21, 1939.
When Mary was five years old, the family moved to Modesto, California. After growing up and completing high school at Modesto High, she married and moved to San Jose, getting her L.V.N certification and working at Santa Clara Medical Center. Eventually she moved back to Modesto with her two children and finished her Associates Degree at Modesto Junior College. She worked for Stanislaus County for 27 years, first in the Welfare Department and later she retired from the Housing Authority.
Mary had a strong faith founded in the Catholic Church and later, First Baptist Church of Modesto. She loved her children, her friends and her animals (especially KC her beloved cat).
She is survived by her daughter Donna Weiss-Naley, her brother Anthony Greene, her sister Janice Linhares , grandchildren Chris Weiss (Hope), Chase Weiss, and Danielle Naley. She was preceded in death by her son David Weiss.
A celebration of life will be held on January 26, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Allen Mortuary in Turlock, California.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children’s Crisis Center (childrenscrisiscenter.com) or Haven Women’s Center of Stanislaus County (havenwcs.org)
