October 10, 1958 – October 6, 2021
Modesto, California – He was born in Modesto to Basilio and Maria Castañeda and died after a 14-year battle with cancer, 4 days shy of his 63rd birthday. He was one of 9 children and spent almost 3 decades as a painting contractor. He attended Davis High and took auto mechanic courses at MJC. He could fix just about anything. Just keep him away from electrical wiring. He married Peggy Hoover in 1986 and had 2 children, Garland (physician in Oakland) and Vincent (software developer in Modesto). He was extremely proud of his boys who both graduated from Beyer High and Princeton. He loved golfing, cycling, hunting, hiking, motorcycle riding and drinking with friends. He also volunteered with Brethren Disaster Ministries repairing homes wherever natural disasters struck. In his final years he loved and was cared for by his former classmate, Marian Babaoka. His memorial service will be held Oct 16 at Modesto Church of the Brethren at 3pm.
