Petra Hernandez, age 96 of Turlock, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 27, 2024. Petra was born February of 1928 to Teofilo and Juanita (Flores) Barraza in East Los Angeles, Ca. She married Manuel Hernandez, Jr. in March of 1951. She owned the “Taco House” in Turlock from 1964 – 2003. Petra belonged to Bethel Temple and belonged to the Women’s Ministry. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She shared her passions of cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, and guitar playing. Her family still raves about her cookies, chicken soup, and freshly made flour tortillas. She was one that would enjoy a game of Uno, Rummy, or Blackjack with friends and family. Her kind words, uplifting Biblical quotes and prayer will be missed.
Petra is survived by her daughter Kathleen V. Hernandez, and two sons Gregg and Charles “Carlos” Hernandez, three grandchildren Jeffrey, Jason and Cassandra, and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother David Barraza and her sister Rebecca Alcarez. She is preceded in death by her husband Manuel Hernandez, Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, 10am at Allen Mortuary. She will be laid to rest at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella on Friday July 19 at 12:30.
