Ragnhild Astrid (Ravnan) Nary arrived in the United States by ship when her family immigrated at the age of 6. In school, the children couldn’t pronounce her name, so a teacher renamed her Hilda, which she hated. Ragnhild loved her Norwegian heritage, and although she never returned, she maintained her Norwegian heritage by never becoming an American citizen. Her children’s best memories are of the times they spent cooking for holidays and playing board games. Ragnhild was an avid reader and could beat any crossword puzzle or spar anyone at Scrabble.
A private memorial service, attended by her three daughters, will take place at her final resting place, El Carmelo Cemetery, overlooking the ocean in Pacific Grove, California. This serene location by the sea is a testament to her deep connection to the beauty and tranquility of the ocean, a place where she found solace and peace.
In this tranquil coastal setting, Ragnhild’s memory will be celebrated, and her family will find comfort in the natural beauty that surrounded her. During the private gathering, her daughters and loved ones will share cherished stories, memories, and heartfelt feelings, paying their respects to a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
In her final resting place, Ragnhild Astrid (Ravnan) Nary’s legacy will continue to be honored, and her presence will forever be cherished by those whose lives she touched with love and grace.
