December 1, 1932 – March 10, 2024

Rex Shipman, of Ceres, California, went to the Lord at the age of 91. Rex was born in Arkansas to Earl & Edith Shipman.

On July 29th, 1951, Rex married the love of his life, Phyllis Clay. They spent 57 years together until Phyllis went to be with the Lord.

In 1953, during the Korean war, Rex enlisted in the United States Navy. He was discharged in 1957.

During this time, Rex felt the Lord calling him to the ministry. He became ordained in 1961 and pastored for almost 50 years. Pastoring churches in Tulare, Exeter, Mountain View and Newark, California. During this time, he kept studying Theology and received his Doctorate from International Bible Institute & Seminary on November 1, 1985.

Rex had the privilege of traveling to Israel, Egypt, Lebanon, Jamaica and Japan.

Rex was blessed with many happy camping and water-skiing trips with friends and family. He treasured his memories of his girls growing up, having family dinners and calls and visits with his grandsons.

After he lost Phyllis, he started confiding in a long-time friend of theirs, Emma Puett, who had also lost their spouse. After spending more and more time together, they married on May 21, 2011. They both felt God had put them together and were fortunate to have found happiness a second time. Rex suddenly became part of Emma’s large family and felt blessed to enjoy many more camping trips and big family gatherings.

Rex is survived by his daughters, Lynn Shipman and Kim Hernandez, his grandsons Daniel Shipman, Harley Shipman, Nick Villanueva, Isaac Nunley and Aaron Hernandez, great grandchildren, Jason Villanueva and Haley Padres, sister Earlene Wright of Arkansas, 2 nieces and 3 nephews.

Rex is preceded in death by his parents, Earl & Edith Shipman, and brothers Bill Shipman and Joy Shipman.

Rex loved the Lord. Whenever he had a chance, he spread the word of our Savior. Rex has brought many people of all ages to the Lord. As long as he was able to speak, he asked his caregivers if they knew the Lord. Throughout his illness he held on to his faith, knowing God’s will and God’s way was the only way.

Burial Service will be held at Santa Nella National Cemetery.
