April 1937 – August 2018
Robert Albert Nunes, of Modesto, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the age of 81. His huge smile and sarcastic wit will be greatly missed!
His younger years centered around playing football and baseball, and farming during the summer with his grandpa.
In high school he met the love of his life, Betty, who he was married to for almost 62 years. They were blessed with three children Keith (Julie), Karen (Steve), and Kevin (Heather), and eight grandchildren, Kynlee and Race Nunes of Modesto, Marisa, Hayden, and Griffin Genzoli of Hughson, and Noelle, Ryan, and Sydney Nunes of Denver, Colorado.
He was an iron worker in the construction industry for 50 years with the last 15 years running his own rebar business.
His interests included hunting, golfing, coaching his kids’ sports, and being a 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus. He was also a huge sports enthusiast. But his most cherished moments were with his grandchildren. Family and friends meant everything to him and he was still in contact with dear friends from his elementary and high school days.
He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Pearl Nunes of Richmond, CA and his brother James of Carson City, NV. He is survived by his sister Carolyn of Marietta, Georgia.
A Rosary will be held on Friday, August 24th at 7:00pm and a Mass on Saturday, August 25th at 10:00am, both at All Saints University Parish, 4040 McKenna Dr., Turlock, CA.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org, or contributions mailed to 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
