Robert Lee Vaughn April 29, 1936 - August 29, 2018

Robert Lee Vaughn

April 1936 ~ August 2018

Bob was born in Salinas to Joseph and Susan Vaughn where he was raised on a dairy farm and passed away at the age of 82 in Turlock.  He graduated from Turlock High School and then joined the United States Navy where he proudly served for four years, during the Korean Conflict serving in the South Pacific.  Upon discharge, he settled in Turlock where he worked on the family farm.  Bob worked for Atlas Van Lines for five years, then for A.L. Gilbert at Berry Seed and Feed, where he drove a truck and retired as a dispatcher.

In 1980, Bob married Ruth Bell and together they shared 38 years of marriage.  In addition to his daughter Pam Hernandez from his first marriage to Betty Lou Subang, Bob gained three more daughters when he married Ruth.  Bob and Ruth enjoyed taking the kids water skiing on the weekends.  After his retirement they loved having time to travel with their motorhome to various local trips as well as making longer trips around the United States visiting their children.  Many of their vacations included motorcycle riding as he was an avid rider.

Bob was a member of Monte Vista Chapel and had attended since its early days. He served in various areas including as an usher, greeter, Sunday School leader and for 28 years as a Cubbies leader.  He also volunteered his time as a bus driver for Westside Ministries.

He is survived by his loving wife Ruth Vaughn; daughter Pam (Dee) Hernandez; daughters of Ruth, whom he loved as his own Jan (Tom) Bishel, Sheryl (Todd) Murphy and Marlene (Dale) Ashton; sister Peggy Tucker; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to Bob’s parents he was preceded in death by his siblings Marge Roby, Bill Vaughn and Dorothy Ahlewine.

Memorial contributions can be made in Bob’s memory to Westside Ministries or Monte Vista Chapel Missions Fund.

A celebration of his life will be held at Monte Vista Chapel on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 11:00a.m.  Private interment will be held at Turlock Memorial Park.

  9. Manfred and Barbara Kern says

The Lord blessed us tremendously when he brought Bob into our family. Such a humble, fun-loving man, more than a brother-in-law…. A loving brother, a man of God whose aim in life was to be used by Him. And the Lord did glorify Himself in Bob’s life. We will miss him so much. We are praying for you, your girls, and their families, Ruthie. We love you! Manfred and Barbara
